How to Get Aid

Knowing where to look makes it easier to find financial aid. To begin, you need to file a financial aid application--the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA). The income and asset information you submit on this form determines your eligibility for financial aid as a part-time student. Check out the different types of financial aid that may be available to you, and take those important first steps towards financial security.

Federal, State, and Institutional Grants
Grants come from a variety of sources--the Federal government, your home state, and your school of choice. You don't have to repay grants as long as you maintain your part-time enrollment status, make satisfactory progress toward your bachelor's degree, and remain in your degree program. Grants are an ideal way to pay for your educational expenses. See grants for more information.

Work-Study
If you receive a Work-Study award, you have the opportunity to earn a portion of your financial aid by working on campus or off campus in non-profit organizations or advocacy groups in the community. Information about how to apply for a Work-Study job will be included in your financial aid notification.

Federal and Private Loans
The Federal government offers a number of educational loan programs that can supplement your income while you're in school. Loan programs typically allow you to repay the loan after you graduate, withdraw from your online program for any reason, or drop below half-time enrollment. Securing Federal loans can take much of the stress out of finding extra money for your online educational expenses. Private loans secured through a bank or private lender can provide even more financial flexibility. See loans for more information.

Corporate and Private Scholarships
The final piece to your educational aid puzzle may be a scholarship. Yoo might be eligible based on your income or cultural background and some corporations offer scholarships for their employees or future employees. Even as a part-time student, you can receive scholarships that benefit you through your academic career. Begin your free scholarship search through your school's financial aid office, online, in your community, and at your local public library. See scholarships for more information.
