Keeping Your Aid
For many part-time students, financial aid is an essential supplement for your existing income. Here are some common questions part-time students have about financial aid.
When Do I Have to Repay It?
Each financial aid award comes with its own set of repayment rules. You don't need to repay most scholarships and grants unless you leave school or change your enrollment status. Loans typically must be repaid but grace periods may give you a little breathing room. Deferment and cancellation plans are also available. Read your financial aid information to avoid unpleasant repayment surprises.
How Will My Aid Arrive?
When you receive notification of your financial aid amount, you should also receive information that explains how you'll receive each form of aid. You may receive a credit to your school's financial account, or a check, or some combination.
If your educational program begins in August and your award check isn't scheduled to arrive until September or later, you may need to have some extra cash ready to pay fees. Contact your school's financial aid office to be sure you understand how your aid will be disbursed.
What if My Student Status Changes?
Your enrollment status can make a big difference in your financial aid package. Make sure you know how your loan, grant, or scholarship program deals with an increase or decrease in student enrollment status. If you anticipate dropping below half-time status in the middle of the term, notify the financial aid office immediately.
Other details about your income, GPA, and major could affect your financial aid. Your financial aid package is personalized and keep the financial aid department notified of any changes in your financial life.
