Re-applying
Receiving financial aid helps you invest full time in your online educational program, but securing funding is only the first step.
Reapplying for financial aid is critical to maintaining your scholarships, grants, work-study, and loans. Mapping out your financial future for one academic term may be challenging, but there are a few easy things you can do to keep your aid throughout your academic program.
The Importance of Reapplying
Generally you need to reapply for financial aid each year. Your financial aid package could depend on a number of factors:
- Your financial need
- Your student status
- Your expected family contribution
- The availability of other types of aid
The amount of aid you're offered can change from year to year based on the asset and income information you submit on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Keep Studying
Merit-based scholarships may require a minimum grade point average (GPA), but grants and loans also may have requirements for making satisfactory progress at school. Depending on your educational program, you may be required to complete a designated number of credits per term and maintain a minimum GPA in order to continue receiving your funding.
Renew Your FAFSA
You may have already completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online, but you should know that this important document needs to be updated every year with your new income and asset information. The FAFSA renewal form is considerably shorter than the first-time application. Like the original FAFSA, the renewal can also be completed online. The FAFSA renewal deadline is generally mid-March, and you should receive a reminder via email or postal mail.
Keep In Touch
In addition to renewing your FAFSA and maintaining your enrollment status, be sure to keep in touch with your school's financial aid office throughout the school term. Your needs and eligibility for financial aid may change as you complete your educational program, and new aid opportunities may arise. The financial aid office can provide you with information about new financial aid programs as well as important application deadlines on the aid you already have.
By keeping track of important financial aid requirements and deadlines, you'll be more likely to maintain your funding eligibility for the duration of your educational program.
